After fourteen years of service with SHRA, I am retiring and getting married. I want to thank all of you I have had the opportunity to serve over the years. I appreciate your friendship and goodwill.
Maya Angelou says “When we engage people who are different than we are, we inevitably learn something about grace, about generosity, courage, and ease. We are individuals with different thoughts, different emotions, different perspectives. We hold our separate ideals and dreams. That is why we have so much to share, so much to learn from one another.”
She beautifully expresses my view of an ideal business relationship, one in which everyone is treated with kindness, dignity and respect. I consider it a privilege to have served you and will always treasure the memories of my experiences with you.
Sincerely,
Jeri (JD) Moore

The new manager is Mike Ostrow.
Back to topSacramento is taking its fight against smoking to the approximately 42,000 multifamily rental units in the city. The Council approved a resolution encouraging property owners to designate at least 25% of their rental units for nonsmokers. Property owners and developers voluntarily setting aside 25% of their units for nonsmokers will be publicly recognized by the council. “Second-hand smoke is a toxic air contaminant that penetrates the walls of apartments ... ” Councilman Kevin McCarty said in urging the council to adopt the measure that he introduced.
In accordance with a Resolution passed by the County of Sacramento on April 10, 2007, multi-unit housing with a minimum of 50% of existing units designated as non-smoking, including private patios and balconies, will receive a certificate and public recognition.
SHRA will be setting their policy soon with input from the RAB.

While the RAB will
not endorse any candidates in the upcoming election, we do encourage each
of you to take the time to go vote for the candidate of your choice. Your
voice is important. Without a vote how can you complain?
The measures are important too. The term limit change could keep up to 42 of our current state legislators in office for another term. If you feel that they are doing a good job, vote in favor, if you do not like the job they have done, you will want to vote against this measure.
There are also four measures about Indian tribe gaming. If you go to southern California to play their games you will definitely want to vote for these. If you do not gamble or only play locally your vote should be based on revenues generated and who must pay them. In this case the fees will be paid by the four ’big’ tribes in southern California. The revenues will be paid to the sates general fund. Everyone in California gets the benefits from their taxation agreement.
Remember, elections are the American Birthright. Go to your poling place and vote on the 5th of February. It is your duty as a citizen of the United States of America.
If you cannot go to your poling place on election day you may go to 7000 65th street #A and vote early. (65th expressway & Florin Rd)

The RAB operates several resident computer labs in the Sacramento area. These
are self-sufficiency and/or self-independence programs with the goal of helping
residents with school homework or providing more connectivity to the outside
world through email and the internet.
Capitol Terrace has a lab in apartment #101. It is open daily from 10 am to 9 pm.
There is a homework lab for kids at the Media Center at 30 Seavey Circle which is open after school on both Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Colonial Heights features a learning center lab Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00.
Our office has a lab that provides a variety services including meeting flyers, notices and copies for the resident committees. This newsletter is written, edited, printed and folded in the RAB office computer lab.

We have contracted with United Christian center to provide a bus for shopping
for the downtown properties. Many of those who live downtown do not have cars or
any other viable transportation for shopping. Each month Carol takes one group
to the Winco store by Elk Grove and Gale takes another group to the new super
Wal*Mart in West Sacramento. Not only do we get our shopping done, but; the
grocery bus continues to bring people together for socializing on the way there
and back. The price is $5.00 a person for each round trip. We plan for 75—90
minutes to shop in addition to travel time.
The Gibson
Oaks ceramic art program continues to be an example of how a
program should operate! If you were to spend Thursday evening from six to
eight with them; you would hear the happy voices and see beautiful pieces
of artwork. After the Art Class, Mary takes the ones that are ready out to
the kiln to be fired. This is a process that take several hours, but; the
results are beautiful. The dull grey and drab colors become shiny and bright.
Light refreshments are served along with the paint and clay. There is a $6.00
fee but the price is well worth the time and results are yours to keep or
give as gifts.
The RAB has entered into discussion with the housing agency regarding the future of TV signal reception for the downtown properties. We have been asked to give a consensus report from the communities to further focus the talks.
